In Indore, a major commercial hub in Madhya Pradesh, truckers and transporters are advocating for the implementation of a technology-driven vehicle monitoring system at checkpoints. They believe that this system will enhance transparency and improve logistics flow from the city. It is estimated that around 4,000 commercial vehicles depart from Indore daily, with numbers increasing during peak seasons.
Transporters are concerned that the government's efforts to streamline vehicle movement by replacing check posts with checkpoints are being hindered by the lack of a proper monitoring system. To address this issue, CL Mukati, president of the Indore Truck Operators and Transport Association, is urging authorities to develop a technology-based solution to oversee vehicle movement at checkpoints.
Both the Indore Truck Operators and Transport Association and the All India Motor Transport Congress have written to Minister of Transport, Rao Uday Pratap Singh, pushing for the adoption of a tech-based monitoring system to ensure smooth and transparent movement of commercial vehicles. Truckers have also requested the establishment of a helpline and an official app to report issues and complaints.
In a positive development, the Madhya Pradesh government recently announced the removal of all checkposts at its interstate borders, a move welcomed by transporters who see this as a step towards facilitating transport movement and reducing corruption.
